The heat here has been at or above 100 degrees with the heat index for almost a month here. We had a great visit with my Mom and Patrick. They took good care of Dean while our normal Day Care was on vacation. He got to spend a lot of time at the pool making lady friends ;) He is now crawling for the most part and I have a lot of new videos added to Youtube. See the links below for a complete listing. I have also added a few new pictures to the gallery.
I have also completed a Hallway bench. The design is completely on my own. It is walnut from Milton Grove and is finished with walnut danish oil. The keys are made from ash to provide some contrast. Check out the Galley for some up close pictures of the process.
Another Month has passed and Father's Day is this weekend. I just discovered that I have 3 days until the corporate challenge sprint Triathlon for Hallmark. It is a good thing that I have been biking and running 2 times a week for the last 2 months. I should be fine, albeit tired. As you can see in the video above this is dean essentially sleeping while bouncing. He does this a lot and we wonder if it is his subtle way to tell mom and dad he needs a nap ;) The shop projects are coming along nicely. I just finished a mobile cabinet from the Apitong and it was a painful wood to work with. I am now begining to work from a design I had in my head for a little bit. I will be constructing a hall way bench. It is difficult to describe the design but the seat will be shaped with two indents for sitting. The top will also be slats spaced about 3/4" apart. I also intend to use a slotted dovetail to join the top to the base. I will be using the Walnut which is really turning out to be the an extremely figured wood with beautiful grain. This tree did not lead a happy life but will be loved in our home. I have never seen grain like this on any project I have seen online or in person. This bench will really be one of a kind.
Dean is sitting up, grabbing things, and generally be a loud babbler. These are all really good signs for his development and we are just enjoying our time with him. I have a few new pictures also posted if you are interested. Her is really getting heave these days at +20lbs. I am beginning to have back trouble from lifting him in and out of the car.We will keep everyone updated on his progress.

Sorry for the lack of posting but it has been a busy time of late. Rachel is doing much better now and is fully recovered. Dean has been growing by leaps and bounds and will soon be crawling we suspect. He really loves his bouncer. We have been working on rolling over and will start attempting to feed him without a bottle. I have been working in the shop and I have begun construction on a toy chest. It will feature 3 degree angled joinery and the wood is all solid Hickory and Ash. No plywood will be used. I have several new videos of Dean below for those interested.

Rachel, Dean and I made it to PA and back safely this past weekend (May 15 2009). We went to my cousin Becky's wedding and had a great time. Dean got to meet his family but won't likely remember it :) I also brought home some wood from Grandpa Schlosser's house. I figure it was about 3000 board feet of mostly walnut and oak. There was also some apitong and mahogany. I have been thinking about a project list and here is what I have.
End Table for Living Room
Futon
Shop Cabinets
Book Case
Boxes
Mugs
Rocking Chair
Check out the picture Gallery as I have added many more pictures.

January is almost behind us and Dean is now sleeping through the night. There were some rough patches but I think we are getting the hang of this baby stuff for now. Rachel is back at work and we have Dean at an in home day care. I finished making a very nice kitchen island using up all the scrap wood I had in my shop. The top is butcher block style. It is made from Walnut, Ash, Hard Maple, and Red Oak. I put a cove around the edge to help with spills. The body is made from Ash and the drawer facings are strips of wood that were also left over scraps. The handles are custom made on my Lathe from a piece of Walnut I had left from the second dresser project. Check out the gallery link to the left to see some pictures of the process.
Below are some more videos of dean in his bouncer and swing Enjoy!
